Who are we?

Our clinical team
Our team is led by an Advanced Practitioner, Speech and Language Therapist and Specialist Practitioner Mental Health Nurse with over 40 years experience working in the NHS.
Over the last few years, we have most recently been working together in a specialist NHS autism diagnostic service.
Our clinicians are registered with the HCPC (Health Care and Professions Council and NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) and have undertaken specialist training in working with neurodivergent people and assessing Autism.
Training has included:
- ADOS-2
- ADI-R
- Royal College of Psychiatry Clinical Interview for able adults.
- Mental state examination & Communication observations

Natalie Hewitt
Advanced Practitioner (Speech and Language Therapist) & Lecturer in Neurodevelopmental Conditions.
As a Speech and Language Therapist I have advanced knowledge and skills that help you feel at ease and facilitate discussions about your experiences.
As a university lecturer, I share a combination of practice related insights and up to date research on neurodevelopmental conditions, improving practices in health and social care.
Ruth Guy
Autism Specialist Practitioner, Mental Health Nurse. Expert by experience.
As an Autism Specialist Practitioner and Mental Health Nurse, I bring both professional expertise and personal experience to provide compassionate care and understanding to practice.
In my professional practice I have specialised in working with women who have experienced trauma and who may have received diagnosis of EUPD and recognise how this can impact autistic individuals.

Affirming Autism offers a comprehensive autism assessment for people from age 16 years, using a neuro-affirmative approach and language to match. At Affirming Autism, we provide a recognised clinical diagnosis, not just an opinion.

The NHS is struggling to cope with the demand for autism assessments for adults. UK waiting lists are between 2-7 years across the UK. Many services are now closed to referrals.
We are a dynamic and friendly Nursing and Speech and Language Therapy team. There is no longer a need to see a consultant psychiatrist, which means we can offer the same quality assessment for a much smaller fee.
Our assessments meet the NICE guidelines for the assessment of autism in adults. Because they are conducted over a video call, you can have your assessment in the comfort of your own home.
